New Gastronomic Restaurant near Gare de Lyon

Bamboche Restaurant Paris
(Paris 12th Arrondissement)

I have been so excited to write about Bamboche! I absolutely love this restaurant. I have a very “sophisticated” vetting process when it comes to choosing the restaurants that I want to write about. It’s kind of like a drive by but on foot. I like to walk up to the restaurant, look in the window, sometimes I go in and check out the menu or chat with the staff. These previews help me to narrow down my list. Sometimes, upon first sight it’s a hard no. With Bamboche, I walked up and it was an immediate yes. The chef/owner was inside and I really wanted to go in because it was so beautiful but they weren’t open yet. Chef waived me in and we chatted and I made a reservation for later that day.

October was unusually warm this year (2023) and so when I returned for my reservation I decided that I wanted to sit outside. The first thing I saw were the cloth napkins rolled around the silverware on the tables. Each one had a name embroidered on it. Chef shared with me that the names represented the friends and family members who contributed in some way to the opening of the restaurant. As a former restaurant owner I know the challenges of getting open and so this really touched me. The little bundles represented all the people who love and support these guys. I absolutely loved this!

The menu is a mix of meat and seafood dishes served with seasonal vegetables and a few starters. I love Oeufs Mayonnaise so I decided to start with the chefs version of this dish. The egg was cooked perfectly and sat on top of a red pepper aioli. It was topped with croutons and chives and I really enjoyed the different textures and flavors. I ordered the fish of the day which was rascasse rouge. This fish is found in the Mediterranean and not to be confused with the rascasse noir or brune that are used to make the famed bouillabaisse soup. It was very fresh and incredibly flavorful. I really appreciate the way they cook their vegetables, perfectly fork tender.

The daytime crowd was mainly locals and the vibe was young professionals on their lunch break or just meeting up with friends. Dinner was also locals mixed with some tourists. The restaurant is less than a quarter mile from Gare de Lyon. And if you’re map questing make sure you’re going to the Bamboche Comptoir in Paris 12th, and not another restaurant called Bamboche in Paris 7th, which is now closed.

As I’ve said before in other blog posts I don’t put too much stock into google reviews; even some of the most phenomenal restaurants in a city have a 4.5 or 4.6. Impressively Bamboche has 5 stars. They definitely deserve it. You can check them out on Instagram here. You can also follow me on Instagram for places to eat and drink in Paris by clicking here.
